Transitions. Life is full of them. They bring about change and make you grow. It’s necessary to go through them if you want to progress in life. And here I am, yet again on the verge of one of the biggest transitions of my life. Here I am about to embark on a new rite of passage.

About a year ago, I wrote about rites of passages. In the June 2015 Opinion Column, I spoke about transitions in life and their significance. From starting school to graduation, there are milestone moments that you take with you. While I spoke about change, I don’t think I embraced it enough. I feel like I questioned it more than anything. In this article, I’m a different me…one that’s more embracing of change.

We all experience rites of passage in our life. Whether it’s birth, getting your drivers license, or graduating, there are certain moments that serve as transitions. It’s a surreal feeling because on one hand you’re letting go of your past, while on the other you’re embracing an unknown future. It’s essentially growing up, but in a more single-moment, grandiose kind of way. It’s a moment where we say goodbye to yesterday because there’s something new to embrace.
