2018, oh 2018, what a year you have been. Between headlines about the Royal Wedding, the World Cup, and everything Trump, it’s been a busy year. The Eagles finally won the Super Bowl, Democrats took back the House, and Thanos wiped out half the population. Zuckerberg went to Washington, a selfie was taken on Mars, and sadly, we all witnessed the tragedy in Parkland, FL. It’s crazy how much happened this past year.

While it’s been a year of big events, I also want to talk about the year that I experienced. Every year around this time, I take a moment and reflect back. Whether it’s the rap life or personal life, I’ve always thought it’s important to appreciate where we’ve come. And of course, it’s also healthy to look at how much we’ve accomplished together. And from what I can recall, there’s been a lot.

So sit back, relax, and enjoy this. Here is my 2018 year in review!

Oh 2016, what a year you’ve been. This has been a year like no other and that’s putting it lightly. From the election of 2016 to Brexit, the world changed in monumental ways. We saw Lebron bring a championship to Cleveland while Kobe retired, the Cubs finally won, and Rio hosted the Olympics. There was Pokemon GO, exploding Samsung phones, and the breakup of Brad & Angelina. And sadly, the worst U.S. mass shooting occured in my own hometown, Orlando, at the Pulse nightclub. It will be a year to remember.

Many people are ready to move on from 2016. From an election that tore us apart, Americans are still healing. I was pretty vocal myself as I saw people become so polarized during election season. There were a number of terrorist attacks, natural disasters, and shootings throughout the world. And we lost some incredible people this year, from Prince to Carrie Fisher to John Glenn (and that’s just scratching the surface). It’s been unreal.

It hasn’t been all bad though. In the face of terror, people came together. I saw the largest outpouring of love in the face of the Pulse shooting. The economy improved, a woman ran for president, and the Paris climate agreement hopes to improve (and protect) the environment. And yes, we got Rogue One and Stranger Things in the same year.

On a personal level, it’s been a memorable year for me as well. So as I do everyyy year, I will revisit it and touch on the highlights that I’ve experienced. This should be a good one too. So here goes…presenting to you MY 2016 year in review.

‘Cause sometimes you just feel tired,
Feel weak, and when you feel weak, you feel like you wanna just give up.
But you gotta search within you, you gotta find that inner strength
And just pull that shit out of you and get that motivation to not give up
And not be a quitter, no matter how bad you wanna just fall flat on your face and collapse.

– Eminem on “Till I Collapse

Sometimes, you gotta strong arm the game. I mean, you gotta REALLY muscle your way through every hurdle and every obstacle and everything going against you. There comes a point where you can’t sit back; instead, you have to step up, take charge, and fight your way through the BS. We all encounter it, and let’s face it…lots of people give in to the pressure. Well, I wanted to give in myself this past month; instead, I did the opposite. I got my ass back up and fought through it. This month wasn’t bad by any means, but it did require me to push harder. But yes, I’ll get to that in a minute.

2011 has been quite the year, hasn’t it? It was the year of the revolution and the year of the protestor. We saw deaths of Bin Laden and Gadhafi along with the Occupy Wall Street movement. In addition, we saw stories about the Royal Wedding, the Casey Anthony trial, Steve Jobs, the shaky economy, and the earthquakes of Japan. Between that and stories about Kim Kardashian, Rebecca Black, and Charlie Sheen, there was a lot that happened this year.

With 2011 winding down (which I still can’t believe), I wanted to take a look at where I’ve been. I wanted to take a look at the year that was 2011, but not so much the news; instead, I wanted to visit the stuff that I’ve been through both personally and professionally. It’s definitely been an “eventful” year to say the least, and I felt like capturing that. In addition, it was a pretty interesting year for music too. So anyway, in this hybrid edition of the Opinions Column, I’ll talk about everything 2011.
