“Ambition is priceless, it’s something that’s in your veins, and I put that on my name”
– Wale on “Ambition“
Ambition is defined as a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work. As a music artist, especially one trying to succeed, ambition is absolutely necessary. If you want to get ahead and achieve what you’ve dreamed for, you have to be ambitious…there’s just no way around it. While talent, skills, and even networking takes you far, without the drive backing you there’s no point. You need it to take you to that next level…
What is up my peeps? Welcome one and welcome ALL to the brand new Ajaxxx.com Opinions Column. This is the sole spot on the planet (outside of select songs I have) where you can get deep within my brainal cavity (because brainal is a word) and find out what’s up with me. For those that’re new to the site, welcome and glad to have you aboard. For those that’re returning, you know the deal! And with that said, let’s talk about ambition along with the month that just passed.
I’ve been struggling with ambition lately. Not because I don’t have it, but because many people around me don’t. So when I’m over here like yo let’s record a new song, shoot this new video, or perform at this one show…and they’re not…I wonder if something is wrong with me. I’ve tried to push forward as much as possible, so it’s challenging when your peers don’t share that vision. And when they don’t, it does get discouraging…and sometimes, I lose my drive. I’m like Jaxxx, you sure you’re doing the right thing? And it makes me wonder….
At the end of the day though (and I’ve said this before), this dream is mine. Nobody else’s but mine alone. So that means I must have the ambition even when those around me don’t. It’s the reason why I’m planning on releasing my new song and video (oh snap). That’s right, I’m announcing it here first. I’m planning on releasing my follow-up single to “One of a Kind” hopefully this month. The name of the song is called “Broken Dreams” and it’s a more subdued, serious Ajaxxx. I’m extremelyyyyyyy excited to release this song because it’s got a lot of emotion behind it and that’s one of the main reasons why I’m doing this whole music thing in the first place. So yes, look for it coming very soon.
Outside of planning for my next single, what else has been going on in your life Jaxxx? Well, I was on TV!!!!!! Yup, in case you missed it, the video for “One of a Kind” made its television premiere on V-MIX, where it was seen alllllllll across Canada. Holy crap, right? While this isn’t the first time I’ve been on TV, it’s always exciting when I hear/see this kinda stuff. If you’d like to check it out, just click here.
I’ve also been on the road a lot this past month where I traveled to Miami, Philly, and NJ. Yup, I was racking up those miles as usual haha. It’s always refreshing to get away for a little bit and break away from everything. I had this goal of four trips this year and I’ve exceeded that already haha. Speaking of my Miami trip too…have you seen my latest freestyle?
Other important things to discuss:
X-Men: Days of Future Past
So first of all, I’m a huge X-Men fan (probably more than any other franchise) and I know a lot of the comics. I’ve been riding for them since like highschool. Now let me be honest. I wasn’t crazy about the original three X-Men movies and First Class was just “alright” to me. I’ve always felt they’ve given Wolverine WAY too much of the spotlight and never let the other characters shine. And especially with their deep back stories, I was always let down. So anyway, I was skeptical going into the theater. WELL DAMN, this one restored my faith in the entire franchise. From an awesome story (that gave a nod to us comic heads) to some incredibly fun scenes to some amazing action sequences, this movie had it all. And they COMPLETELY surprised me with Quicksilver, especially after being underimpressed with all the promo leading up to the movie. I’d have to say this was my favorite movie of the year.
The Roots – “…And Then You Shoot Your Cousin”
I had a chance to check the new Roots album this past month too. I’ve been a big Roots fan, checking each of their releases over the years. It seems as though lately (especially with the last CD and this one), they’ve tried to do more of the artsy thing. It isn’t as “hip hop” as I’m used to them being. The last album was more production heavy, while this one took that even further. So I dunno, I wasn’t really crazy about this release. It didn’t really engage me like previous releases from them. Maybe I need to vibe with it more, but overall it was just ok.
Michael Jackson – “Xscape”
I also listened to the new MJ CD “Xscape” which recently came out. So first of all, they’re mad deceiving to have a deluxe version. Half the songs were acoustic versions of the regular songs. So I’m saying, if you get past that then there aren’t that many new songs from him. Despite that, the music is great. I’m not sure MJ would’ve gone for all the production on the CD, but most of it is pretty close to what you’d hear from him. And damn, there’s this one song on there – “A Place With No Name” – which is crazy. I’ve had that song on nonstop repeat in the whip for a MINUTE now haha. The video is below. Overall though, it’s a good listen.
Anyway, that’ll do it for me and this edition of the Opinions Column. This was quite the lenghty entry, wasn’t it? I guess I’m making up for some of the shorter ones in past months. Get ready for a new single and new video coming soon! Stay up, stay safe, and hold ya head…Ajaxxx signin out, PEACEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
