2017, what a year you’ve been. It seems like just yesterday we were starting the year, and now here we are winding down. It’s definitely been one for the history books, hasn’t it? From an unpredictable president to a royal wedding announcement to the biggest Super Bowl comeback in history, there were many things that defined the year. We witnessed KD get a ring, Episode 8 finally release, and an Avengers trailer that broke all sorts of records. A new iPhone released, Disney bought Fox, and there was a revolving door at the White House. And on a sadder note, we saw the tragedy in Las Vegas. It’s been an absolutely unreal year.
While I just spent that intro discussing this year’s defining moments, I’d also like to talk about the year that I had. Every year at around this time, I take a moment and reflect back. Whether the rap life or personal life, I’ve always thought it’s important to appreciate where you’ve come. And of course, it’s also good to look back at how much we’ve accomplished together. And from what I can remember, it’s been a lot.
So here it is. My 2017 year in review. In the words of Kanye, “like we always do at this time…”
2013…what a year it’s been. From twerking with Miley Cyrus to having a royal baby, it’s been krazy, hasn’t it? We saw some very controversial trials this year including George Zimmerman and Jodi Arias, while we also saw high profile celebs get caught in the news including Aaron Hernandez and Paula Deen. We saw a young girl become a rising voice, a U.S. government shutdown, and the loss of a significant world leader. 2013 was nothing short of eventful.
As I write this, the only thing I’m wondering is…has it really been a year? Because it’s seriously flown by. LoL I guess it has. Every year (and instead of just revisiting the news), I take a glimpse back at where I’ve been and more specifically the highlights of my year. As usual, it was a rollercoaster year with lots of highs and lows. I had some eye opening moments, realizations, and experiences that really changed my outlook on life. Both personally and professionally, I went through a lot. But I mean, that’s normal, right? ‘Course it is LoL. And with that, here it is…MY 2013 Year in Review.
“Let me relive my younger days just once again, reenact my memories
from every friend to every sin, keeping demons buried in…
my closet, but yet I put in work like a deposit
on my bank account, My eyes lit while I think about my childhood
now I’m blanking out, those were truly my best days…”
– J. Cole on “Farewell“
I’ve been doing a lot of reading about time lately. I’ve also had a few convos with some friends over the last month on the topic too. For some reason, time seems to move much faster now than when we were younger. Moments that you looked forward to are just blurs in the past now. Milestones have become memories, and it’s hard to comprehend why. I don’t know what it is (and there are a ton of theories out there), but time flies much faster when you get older. Compound that with not “taking the time to smell the roses”, and well…it’s even harder to figure out where the time went.
What is up my peoples? Welcome one and all to the July 2013 Opinions Column. July is my birthday month! With every birthday month Opinions Column, I get extra deep/philosophical/borderline krazy. This year is no different, especially since there’s a ton on my mind that I wanna talk about…especially dealing with time. If you’re new to the site, this is the place where I talk about everythinggggg going on within the chasms of my brizzain. And if you’re returning, muchas gracias! I love you! LoL and with that outta the way, let’s talk about something that I’ve been thinking about (and talking about) throughout the past month…time.
