It’s a glorious month and I’m gloriously late with this Opinions Column lol. I guess I’ve had more going on than usual, which lends itself to the topic this month. With how busy we get, it’s sometimes a good idea to reflect on how far we’ve come. Before you know it, life passes you by and you’re left wondering where did the time go? I’m sure everyone has felt like that one time or another. So this month, let’s take a moment. Let’s take a moment to appreciate how far we’ve come.
What is up my peoples? We’re back at it with the August 2015 Opinions Column, which is way later than usual. For those that’re new to the site, welcome! This is the sole spot where you can find out what’s going on with me on a personal level (outside of the music, of course). For those that’ve been returning to the site, welcome back! With that said, let’s talk about life!
If you’ve been keeping up with me, life has been extra eventful – I recently got engaged (oh snap, right). Not just that, there’s been lots of other activities pulling me in different directions. No excuses though, I’m late because I didn’t prioritize. But yeah, it has been extra busy this past month. I had a moment somewhere in there where I realized that with everything going on, I need to hit the pause button. I need to appreciate this and reflect on how far I’ve come. I mean, it’s been QUITE the journey. So when I decided to reflect, I also decided to rewind.
In 2004, I wrote this on the Opinions Column: “It’s not easy to just forget all the memories that lifted your spirits and had you feelin like you were on a natural high. And yeah, it’s not easy to give up all the plans that you had for the future (and the plans that I had, wow). It’s really hard. So what do u do?? Do u accept it, let it go, and move on? Or do you fight for whatcha heart’s feelin cuz it means so much t’you??”
Lol wow. I was quiteee love struck, wasn’t I?
In the November 2012 Opinions Column (it’s quite miraculous that I can remember that, isn’t it?), I questioned the meaning of love. I went from being all about love to wondering whether it was even worth it. Love lost its “allure” for awhile and it didn’t really appeal to me anymore. I guess after several negative situations, I stopped caring. It’s ironic, then, that I’ve gone from such extreme stances to where I am today. I mean c’mon, I’m engaged. I have a new outlook on everything and I have an exciting new future to look forward to as well. Ohhh, how far we’ve come.
Not just with relationships, but I also think about how far I’ve come with music. I mean, I really do have to take a moment and reflect on how far I’ve come. Ten years ago, I was busy promoting my FIRST mixtape. Many years later, and I’m readying my new single. Speaking of which…ehem…
I’m FINALLY releasing “Broken Dreams” this month! Getting away from reminiscing for justtt a moment, I recently received the final version of my new single. How exciting, right? It’s been quite a long journey, which is another reason why I gave this Opinions Column the title I did. No lie, I’ve been working on this song for over a year. I went through draft after draft after draft getting it to sound right, and now we’re finally here. Super excited to share it with you!
And I think that’ll do it for me for this month. While I could talk your ear off about more stuff, I’ll leave this one here. Before I go though, RIP to Sean P. You were definitely an exceptional emcee and you’ll be missed brother.
