One thing I’ve come to notice, especially in recent months, is how many distractions surround us. Whether it’s other people, other responsibilities, or *ehem* social media, there are so many things that pull us in different directions. Did I mention social media? Lol. Yeah, it’s easy to get distracted and lose sight of what you were doing in the first place. During times like these, it’s important to get back on track and focus. Not just any kinda focus though…laser focus.
Before we get ahead of ourselves though, welcome back to the Ajaxxx.com Opinions Column. This is where I talk about anything and everything going on in my life. For those that’re new to the site, welcome and glad to have you visit. For those returning, y’all know the drilly! And with that, let’s talk about the importance of LASER focus.
So back in December, I announced that I’d be doing weekly videos on my YouTube channel. I knew that setting the bar so high – WEEKLY videos – would be a tall task. Between writing, recording, and editing videos every week, it’d be a lot of work. Not just that, but I had to keep it fresh. I didn’t want to have random verses every week…where’s the fun in that? So yeah, I’ve been trying to make these videos. As determined as I have been though, I’ve fallen somewhat short. While I almost expected this to happen, I was still like…even if I fall short, I would’ve still made SOME progress.
Well, that’s cool. And it’s true, even if you aim high and you come up short, you still came far. However, I really don’t feel I’ve come far enough and we’re already halfway through the year. And then I started thinking…why? Why have I not been able to meet my goal? I’d say two things…one is indecisiveness, which I’ve always struggled with. It’s hard for me to pick the right beat or choose the right topic. However, I’ve done a much better job here in 2017. Where I think I can improve a lot more though is my focus. I feel like I sometimes take on too much and go in a lot of different directions, which leads to my focus being in various places.
What do you mean ‘Jaxxx? Well, for example, I told myself I’d have a new music video out by now. However, instead of working on that, it seems that though a lot of my time has been spent on graphic design. Now that’s not a BAD thing…I’m still working on something, improving in a certain area, and progressing. However, it’s not where I need to spend my time. Time is so important. And perhaps this is a lesson to take on less to focus more.
So yeah, with mid-year upon us, here’s my pledge to become much more laser focused.

Remembering Prodigy
Before I go though, I just want to leave with this. News broke this past week that Mobb Deep’s Prodigy past away at age 42. It left me absolutely shocked, as P was a HUGE influence on me and I grew up listening to him. I’ve got Mobb tapes and CDs all over the place and I’ve rocked over so many of their beats. They’ve been incredibly important to my life and I’m hurt to see he passed. It’s hard for me to put it into words, although I wrote a bit about it on my InstaGram account. My thoughts are with his family and close ones. We’ll miss you P.
And with that said, I must go. I have to finish writing and recording for the next video. It’s going out to Prodigy.
