When you’re moving towards a goal, it’s important to take a step back from time to time and assess yourself. Whether it’s how you’re progressing, how you’re struggling, or simply how you feel, it’s all important. Assessing yourself will help you realize what’s working and what’s not. And ultimately, it should also help you do better.
Before getting too ahead though, WHAT UP! What’s going on my peoples? I’m super late with this but welcome to the May 2018 Opinions Column. This is the place where I talk about anything and everything on my mind. So let’s talk about assessing yourself for May.
So earlier in the year, I did a video about setting goals. This past month, I assessed my progress. How am I doing so far? It’s good to do this periodically, whether it’s weekly, monthly, quarterly, or whatever works for you. I have a planner so I try to work backwards, but that’s usually for small items. For big things, it’s good to take a step back and ask yourself…yo, how are you doing so far? Are you making the progress you expected? Are you having troubles (and if so, what)? And are there ways to improve? So many things to ask, I’m tellin ya.
So upon some reflection, I realized I’m not where I wanna be. I should’ve done some more designs and more songs by now. Sooooo, I’m using this upcoming month to catch up and hopefully get to where I should’ve been. But yeah, I wouldn’t have even realized this if I didn’t take a moment to assess myself. Sometimes it’s hard to look at yourself in the mirror and identify that you’re doing something wrong, but it’s absolutely necessary if you wanna succeed. You have to look at the micro and the macro. So yeah, it was definitely a helpful experience.
Looking ahead, I’ll be catching up on design, music, and web stuff too. It should be a fun time. Here’s to assessing…and here’s to bettering…ourselves.
