“Thank God for grantin me this moment of clarity”
– Jay-Z on “Moment of Clarity“
Have you ever driven at night when it’s foggy? Like, really foggy? It’s not easy to drive in those kinds of conditions. You gotta slow down, look out for others, and proceed with caution. Basically, when your vision gets clouded, it makes it more difficult to get to your destination. I think about a person’s health in the same way. And for that reason, it’s really important to have a clear mind.
What’s up y’all? Welcome to the Ajaxxx.com November 2019 extremely late version of the Opinions Column. For those that are new to the site, welcome! This is the place where I talk about whatever’s going on in my mind. And or those that are returning, welcome back! Now then, let’s talk about the importance of having a clear mind.
If your mind is clouded with different thoughts, it weighs on you. You’re unable to completely focus, you may become less productive, and you can also have accompanying health conditions. Mental health is so important, especially with social media in our lives, and should become a priority. If your brain isn’t functioning at 100%, it can really seep into other areas of your life and that’s not good.
So why am I even talking about this? Well, a couple of months back, I was going through it. Every morning, I’d wake up with crazy amounts of anxiety before checking my e-mail. It got worse, and I started having that feeling during other times of the day. For example, instead of just being anxious in the morning, I’d also feel it the night before. I’d feel the urge to check my e-mail more than I should, and it made me obsess over perfection. It got bad, man. In addition to that, I was also under a great deal of stress which weighed heavy on me. And when it started affecting family time, I knew it wasn’t healthy.
So how did I address it? Well, I thought I could just “get over it” but I knew I was in a toxic environment and needed to get away. And so, that’s what I did…I got away. I focused on “decompressing” from the computer and take on more analog activities. I got back into the gym, which was a HUGE boost. I started getting more sleep, organizing and tying up loose ends, and I doing breathing exercises too. All of these things have helped a great deal to help me feel better. In retrospect, I’m glad I made these lifestyle changes.
When your mental health isn’t right, it can take a toll on your physical health. When you see something like that happen, you really need to take back control of the situation. It’s not easy, but if left unaddressed it can get worse. I realized that, and decided to take action. And with that decision, I feel a lot better and have a much more clear mind.
Hopefully this story has helped you. Let’s get our health right as we approach the new year!
