Life is full of distractions. There’s so much noise, so many obstacles, and endless hardships keeping you from where you wanna go. As a dreamer, it can get pretty discouraging. Yet despite all the drama that you’re faced with, you gotta keep your eye on the prize. That’s been the theme of this month.
What’s poppin’ everyone? Welcome to the April 2011 Ajaxxx.com Opinions Column. This is THE spot on the entire stratosphere where you can dig deep within my brain tissues to find out what I’m thinking (kinda gross, right?) For those that’re new to the site, WELCOME and glad you can join me. For those re-visiting, muchas gracias as always for your support. And with that outta’ the way, let me talk about the month that was March.
So as I mentioned above, there’s a lot that can keep you from getting to where you wanna’ go. One of those things is people. I don’t know why, but for some reason I run into the stupidest most difficult people with regards to my music. I’ve met over-emotional producers, shady promoters, and diva everything else. I can’t tell you how many times we’re making good progress towards a project, and then someone’s personality gets in the way. I always try to bend over backwards (pause) to work towards a goal, even if that means swallowing my pride. Despite that, sometimes it doesn’t go according to plan. Well anyway, there’s been more of that this month which is no surprise. HOWEVER, trust me when I say that it didn’t stop me. I kept reminding myself to keep my eye on the prize, and I did.
The other thing that hinders your progress is TIME. Time is so valuable nowadays, especially when I’m juggling 500 things at once. I reached a point where I became overloaded with everything and realized I needed a change. So, I started filtering stuff out and shuffling other things around. When life buries you, you gotta re-focus and get back to what’s important. Again, gotta keep your eyes on one thing and forget the rest.
So with 2012 in full swing, I’ve revisited some goals and re-prioritized things. I’m back working on fixing the small things with my new CD. I’ve returned to the gym, being more consistent than ever. And perhaps most exciting, I’m working on production too. I’ve realized that one of the main things hindering my progress is the right production. So this year, I’m going to take back control and get these songs rolling again. It’s gonna be a busy time, but I’m prepared for it.
Outside of March, what else was I up to? Well, I went to a Magic-Heat game (which was a blessing in disguise, wow), I went on vacation, and I also reengaged with Bollywood. I hadn’t watched a movie in awhile, and I caught some really good ones this past month: Rockstar and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Here’s one of my fav songs from the latter, which is in Hindi (subtitles are included).
Jumping to another note, here’s what I’ve been jamming to this month: Nas, Kendrick Lamar, and J.Cole. It’s a mix of new and old, but all dope.
In closing, it’s been a good month to me and I’m hoping it’ll continue throughout April. Gotta continue recording, getting tracks mixed, and everything else to achieve my goals. There’s a lot going on this upcoming month (including a trip to Houston), but I gotta maintain and stay focused. Just gotta keep reminding myself to keep my eye on the prize!
