Expectations are resentments waiting to happen”

Expectations. Despite how often I remind myself not to have them, they seem to creep up from time to time. Most of the time, whenever we have expectations they don’t turn out how we expected (at least that’s been my experience). So one day I decided to not have them anymore. If you don’t have expectations, you can’t be let down, right? Despite all that though, I still continue to have them. I guess it’s human nature or something…or maybe it’s just my ambition. Whatever the case, I find myself wavering when I think about it and felt the need to talk about it. Oh expectations…
What is up my peoples? Que pasa in yo casa though? It’s ya boy Ajaxxx back at it with the brand new May 2014 Opinions Column. For those that’re new to the site, this is the sole spot in the entire Milky Way where you can dig deep and find out what’s going on with yours truly. For those that’re returning to the site, you know the deal! And with the intro outta the way, lemme talk more about expectations…and why I’m even thinking about them in the first place.
Sometime in April, it hit me that I’m not where I wanna be in life. Now although I’ve got SO much to be grateful for, I expect to be someplace else. Is that bad of me? I don’t think it is. But the fact that I expected to be at Point B yet I’m still at Point A…well, it disappoints me. And the disappointment can be blamed on my expectations. Now if I didn’t expect anything, there’d be no disappointment at all. But then it’s like…so do you not have any goals at all? Or do you live your whole life like a zombie? That doesn’t sound like a good idea to me. So yeah, I’ve been going back and forth about it. I guess maybe disappointment is inevitable and it’s just a part of life. But then there’s that other part of me that doesn’t wanna hear all that. And so, I’m over here stuck in the middle. I guess I’m still learning…
So what was the Point B you were even referring to? Well, I guess I’d have my album out by now, more videos, and maybe some other personal life stuff. Perhaps I’m still on the way, but sometimes you get to dwelling . I’m hopeful that the best is still yet to come, but for now I’m just in chill mode. Well, no…I’m in grind mode but you know what I mean. Let’s see where this road takes me.
I think that I’m just gonna force my way through the obstacles and do so much, that I can’t afford to be disappointed.
So outside of that, April kept me pretty busy. Here’s the highlights of the past month:
Chicago
I recently traveled to Chicago for a week. This isn’t the first time I’ve been there, but this experience was definitely different. I had a great opp to sightsee and roam the streets at night to vibe out with the city (whatever that means haha). The Chi’s got a really cool feeling to it, and while it’s super urban it’s not like NY…it’s more laid back. It’s hard to explain, but it’s a great place. And in case you missed it, I kicked a freestyle there too:
IIFA
Soon after Chicago, I headed to Tampa Bay for Bollywood award show IIFA. I wasn’t even planning on going, but last minute I changed my mind and decided why not. I’m glad that I went because I was really familiar with most of the movies and songs from the show (who saw that coming? Haha). I didn’t even realize I was so on top of my game, considering I missed mad movies this past year. The show and especially the performances were great. Plus I got to see my wife Priyanka Chopra so that’s always a good thing. At the same time, there were a ton of issues and technical mistakes including script errors, audio visual problems, and even a delayed start. No lie, we left at 3:30 AM and the show was still going on (wtf?). It seemed kinda disorganized and more suited for TV. Still though…I had a good time.
Captain America
Ah yes, can’t leave without talking about Marvel’s newest movie, Captain America. I was actually late by a few days to see it, so all the internet chatter was really killin me. Anyway, the movie definitely lived up to expectations (uh oh lol). Marvel can do no wrong (if you forget about that Ironman 3 movie) and their latest proved that. The action, the story, and the effects were all top notch. I also liked the way they had this whole movie planned out from part 1. Overall, this movie gets an emphatic two thumbs up from me.
Andddddd with that ladies and gentlemen, I must be out. So what’s this upcoming month got for me? Well, looks like MORE traveling. I’ll be heading to the MIA this weekend for a few days, so look out for that. Take care, stay safe, and hold ya head.
