potential

“Cause they’re not seeing me, they rather look at my potential”
– Ajaxxx on “Broken Dreams”

Ever feel like you’re not living up to your potential? Or do you ever feel like it’s too stressful to even compete with “your potential” in the first place? Sometimes I do. I mean, when I was younger the thought of my potential excited me. It’s like damn, there’s more to look forward to? Niceee. But as I get older, I realize it’s a lot of weight to carry. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the topic of this month’s Opinions Column.

What is going on my peoples? Welcome to the Ajaxxx.com March 2015 Opinions Column. For those that’re new to the site, this is the place where I talk about whatever’s going on within my mind, ranging from music to movies to this whole potential thing lol. For those that’re returning (aka the regulars), welcome back y’all! With the formalities behind us, let’s talk about life.

PressureSo lately, I’ve been feeling a lot of pressure to live up to my potential. When I was like 12 or 13, the idea of having more ahead of me was an exciting feeling. I mean, c’mon…I was already doing well and there’s a good chance I could be doing better? How awesome. Nowadays, it feels like a lot of pressure. I understand that there’s all this greatness awaiting me but damn, can we chill? It seems like the younger we are, the more exciting our potential can be. Fast forward to when you’re older and it takes on a different meaning. I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m not THAT old and I do look forward to what the future awaits for me, but can we focus on the current also? Which brings me to my next topic…

FlowersWhy don’t we, as humans, take time to enjoy the moment? Instead of always looking at what’s ahead, what is coming up, or what events await us, why can’t we just embrace “right now” and enjoy it? I know way too many people that can’t sit still because they’re always looking to the future. “Yo when I get on it’s gonna be crazy” or “I can’t wait til next week when whatever whatever happens.” When did we stop saying “I’m excited for today” and start saying “actually I’m excited for tomorrow” instead? Or perhaps we never did in the first place? Who knows? All I know is, sometimes it disappoints me when we don’t think about what’s going on today in our lives in exchange for what may happen tomorrow.

So what’m I getting at? Well lately, people have been telling me I should do this or do that for the future. And while I realize how important the future is, I’d like to take a moment and embrace today. If you’re reading this, chances are you’re doing pretty ok yourself and that’s reason to rejoice. So forget your potential, at least for the moment, and let’s celebrate you on this day.

And with that said, I’m outta here. Stay up, stay safe, and hold ya head. Ajaxxx signin out, PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
