“I didn’t invent the game I just rolled the dice trying to get some change”
– Jay-Z on “Public Service Announcement”
Quite often, we get stuck in a rut. I’ve talked about it at lengths in previous blog posts, but I wanted to revisit it. It’s mad easy to become stagnant, discouraged, or just unmotivated to “make it happen.” And more often than not, it’s easy to live in our heads. That’s what I wanna talk about in this Opinions Column.
Before we jump ahead though, welcome! This is the Ajaxxx.com Opinions Column which is super, super late lol. It’s here where I ramble about anything and everything. For those that’re new to the site, welcome! And for those returning, welcome too! With that, let’s talk about making it happen.
So one thing I notice far too often is that people LOVE to talk. I’m always hearing stuff about “yo I’m about to do this” or “big things are coming.” I’ve seen it again and again and again. Especially when you’re in the rap game for so long, it becomes dizzying. Like, ok, I get it…you have some hot music that you plan to drop soon. Instead of talking about it, let’s hear it. I don’t wanna get lost in the hype…I wanna get lost in the product itself.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love to hype things up myself lol. The difference is (and the reason I wanted to write this), I feel like lately I’ve been making it happen. Instead of talking about the songs I’m gonna drop or the videos I’m gonna record, I’m actually doing it. This year, I’ve released several new videos and I’m really proud of that. Now, is it the goal I set for myself? Not quite…but I knew that releasing one video a week would be really difficult. I’m doing what I can though and I feel like ANY productivity is better than none at all.
To understand what I mean, here’s the latest video I dropped:
The other thing I don’t understand is when people are talking about the moves they’re making, it’s not marketed towards me. It’s like yo, I’m an emcee but I’m also a consumer. Maybe this is a good topic to spend a bit more time on in the future, but yeah…you gotta target the people you’re tryna reach. Otherwise, what’s the point?
Anyway, all I’m tryna say is…it’s time to get of our heads. I just read a story about a producer that made beats for Kendrick using his iPhone. He didn’t let the lack of equipment or other responsibilities or whatever get in his way. He just worked on his craft and good things came from it. I feel like if you’re dedicated, consistent, and driven, good things will emerge.
And that’ll do it for me. I got things to make happen! Until the next one, stay up, stay safe, and hold ya head. Ajaxxx signing out, PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!
