“Never looking back or too far in front of me
the present is a gift, and I just wanna be”
– Common on “Be“
The Coronavirus has changed the world. It’s a time like never before, isn’t it?
Welcome to the March 2020 Ajaxxx.com Opinions Column. For those that are new to the site, welcome…this is the place where I talk about whatever is on my mind. And for those returning, you already know the drills…welcome back. With that said, let’s talk about this global pandemic that’s happening and how we can maintain our sanity through it all.
First off, my thoughts are with those that have been personally affected by this virus, along with the people on the front lines that include the doctors, nurses, and paramedics. It’s an extremely historic time in our lives, with a global pandemic like we’ve never seen before. Businesses are closed, sports are either cancelled or postponed, and social distancing is happening. There’s an uncertainty around how long this will go on for, and what the world will look like when things return to “normal” (I put that in quotes because I feel we’ll go into a new normal after all this). Overall, with all these changes, it can be stressful. I thought I’d share some thoughts around what we can all do together to maintain our sanity.
We can all remind ourselvesthat this will not last forever, and the world will resume soon. Whether that’s one month, or three months, nobody knows. But this new reality is not gonna last our entire lifetimes. Maintain a positive attitude and try to be that positive voice for other people too. They’ll appreciate you, and it’ll make you feel better too.
Another idea: don’t watch the news so much. Let me explain. I know it’s important to stay informed on what’s going on, but don’t let it consume you. If you keep checking updates about how many have been infected, or what new developments are happening, it can really pull you away from your life. You may end up worrying more, stressing out more, or even developing higher levels of anxiety. Instead, yes get news updates (especially those specific to where you live), but don’t overwhelm yourself. It’s important to be informed but not at the expense of your mental health.
And use this time to your benefit. Instead of letting it get you down, why don’t you use this time to improve yourself? Whether that’s exercising at home, learning a new skill, or even spending time with family, this is a good time to catch up on stuff. Personally, I’ve been using a lot of time to do self-development trainings around web design and programming. I know this is something that will help me, and I thought it’s a good idea as the world is on “pause”, if you will.
There’s a lot of things that may be weighing on all of us. It’s not easy. But I thought I’d share some helpful ideas for how to maintain our sanity through it all.
Ok, y’all…that’ll do it for me. Stay safe, stay up, and hold ya head…Ajaxxx signing out, PEACEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
